OMG! OMG! A BFP!

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

OMG! I got my BFP! Sunday morning I took a digital test and got my very first BFP! I am so excited. I went to the Dr. this morning to confirm and will head back in a few weeks to do a battery of tests and a viability scan!

The Dr. said I am four weeks and four days along... due at the end of April.

I can't wait to start writing about "maternity"... graduating from TTC is so much fun!

"I'm So Mad I Could Just Spit"

Monday, August 11, 2008

Woah. What a weekend I had. It was nice and relaxing right up until the end when I found out that my brother (younger) may be about to become a dad. He recently found out that his ex-girlfriend is pregnant and he might be the father (apparently there are a few possibilities... ewww.)

Anyway... I'm sitting here feeling sort of sorry for myself. This was supposed to be my big baby year and instead I just feel like a big baby myself. The DH and I haven't told his parents or my parents yet that we're trying... we wanted it to be a surprise. However, now I'm afraid that when we do get pregnant (if we aren't already) and we announce it to my side of the family I'm just going to look competitive (sort of a little habit of mine). It's probably stupid but it's how I feel.

The DH and I have done everything right. We've worked hard, we've built a loving home and we've planned so that when we welcome our bundle of joy into the world we'll be ready. Now I feel like that joy is hampered by my brother's, how should I say this... opportunistic ex-girlfriend. Neither have jobs, she already has one child and the situation just couldn't be worse (at least from my perspective). "I'm so mad I could just spit" (one of my favorite lines from the original Parent Trap).

The oh-so ironic thing is that if I am pregnant now (I'm several days past ovulation)... his potential child and mine would be due about three or four weeks apart. Arrghhh... this is painful.

So what do you think ladies? I'm a being a big baby or is it fair for me to feel that even though I'm not pregnant yet my baby joy thunder is being stolen?

Craving Baby is Craving Chocolate

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

I just read a quick little piece in a copy of American Baby Magazine and according to a recent study conducted by Yale University scientists... pregnant women should be eating chocolate regularly. Women that had at minimum five servings of chocolate per week were 40& less likely to develop preeclampsia!

Of course it's also important that regular exercise accompany a regular chocolate regiment.

I'll be sure to keep chocolate (especially dark chocolate) on my list of foods when I'm preggers.

What about you... did you eat chocolate regularly during pregnancy?

Eating Nuts During Pregnancy Could be Dangerous

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

This morning The Today Show talked about the potential dangerous that eating nuts during pregnancy can pose. Take a look at the video. What do you think? Did you eat nuts during your pregnancy? The second half of the video is about the rise in melanoma in our country.

Crossing My Fingers for Ovulation

Saturday, June 28, 2008

Crossing my fingers that my body is back to a normal healthy rhythm now and I'll be ovulating in the next ten or so days. One reader recommended that I use an OPK and I plan to do just that. I'll be seeing my family (they live a long distance from my DH and I) at the end of July and I would love to be able to tell my mother that I'm preggers. So for now crossing my fingers and baby dancing every other day!

To Dread or Not to Dread? That is the Question.

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

I'm sure all you baby-less ladies out there have at one time or another heard the dreaded question... "So when are you going to start a family." Whether it's mom, Aunt Milly or an old classmate at your high school reunion... someone always has to bring up the fact that you have yet to join the "mommyhood." For me the questions started about year two of my marriage. At first it didn't bother me... I was able to just laugh it off with comments like "we're still newlyweds". Well three or so years later that comment doesn't work anymore. Even more upsetting than the dreaded question? The dreaded silence. I've noticed at recent family gatherings that people don't even ask anymore... they must figure that I am a lost cause. Little do they know (we're sort of keeping the "trying" a secret for now) if I have my way I will be joining the "mommyhood" in the next year.

What about you? Do you dread the question? Welcome the question? Or like me... have they simply stopped asking?

PMS or Preggers?

Friday, June 13, 2008

I've been having all sorts of "symptoms" for the past few days; bloating, headaches, cramping. Trouble is... I don't know if I should attribute these symptoms to PMS or possibly being preggers.

My cycle is off thanks to stopping BC pills after 15 years. Don't know when I should expect AF to show... and don't want to break the bank taking a pregnancy test every other day... you can laugh here... 'cuz you know you've done it too.

Don't know if I should be counting from my last on schedule AF or from what I think was break through bleeding a week after stopping BC.

So I'll give it a week and see what happens. If my cycle were normal I would be expecting it to be here by now.

I feel different... but it might be wishful thinking.

Welcome to the Baby Mama.

Friday, May 30, 2008

So I want to be a Baby Mama. There I said it. I want to be a baby mama. Big step for a girl like me. I've been married almost five years to a wonderful man, we live in a lovely neighborhood and I love my job... blah blah blah blah blah. Seriously, I know you're not interested in those pesky little details. The reason you're reading this is probably 'cuz you too want to be (or might already be) a baby mama. Now some people have warned me that naming my blog "The Baby Mama" might not be such a great idea because it can have a negative connotation. I let this worry me for about a minute... I then realized I like the name "The Baby Mama Blog", I think it's catchy... and I don't use derogatory terms or racial slurs... so if you think you're going to find that here... you're wrong. I just like the name... I think it's fun.

As a writer and a prospective mama, I wanted to have a blog where I could chronicle my journey from making the decision that I'm ready to be a baby mama through what I hope will be the birth of my wee babe... maybe even after. I also want to share with you what's going on around the net on other mom sites... 'cuz it's a lot to keep up with.

Being a bit of an internet addict I've read a lot of sites about getting pregnant, being pregnant, babies, etc. If you're not already aware, there are a lot of them. Oodles and Oodles of sites dispensing advice, reporting on new products, research, etc.

There are lots of mommy blogs... good ones and bad ones (let's hope this becomes a good one.)

That said, welcome to the Baby Mama.
